Two Pedestrians Killed in Jeffersontown

Last night, police arrested Juan Carlos Ortega-Santos, 26 years old, for the deaths of two pedestrians on Taylorsville Road. He is being charged with two counts of murder, one count of first degree assault, one count of first degree wanton endangerment, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, driving without a license and failure to maintain insurance.

Police have determined that Ortega-Santos had gone into the bicycle lane, where four youths were walking.  Two of the four children were hit: 10 year old Alena Clay was pronounced dead at the scene and 16 year old Tyeisha Lacy died at Kosair Children’s Hospital. One of the other children suffered some injuries and has been treated at the Children’s Hospital.

Ortega-Santos was taken to Baptist Health Louisville and had blood drawn for an alcohol test. He blood alcohol content was 0.200, which is more than two times the legal limit. Ortega-Santos is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.
