Fandomfest2014_0897The largest comic-con in the region, Fandomfest, kicks off this Friday, August 7, in Louisville.

The three day event features celebrities including sci-fi movie stars, sports legends, artists, authors, and more.  In addition to the opportunity for fans to get autographs and photos with their favorite heroes, there is a full roster of events including movie screenings, panel discussions and Q&A sessions, gaming sessions, parades, and live performances.

Attendees will have the opportunity to get on the action as well by participating in the Fantasmagorical Fandomfest Parade, cosplay events, after parties, and more.

The event takes place in and around the Kentucky International Convention Center in downtown Louisville Friday August 7 – Sunday August 9.  Vendors and exhibit halls are open from 4-10PM on Friday, 10AM-7PM on Saturday, and 11AM-4PM on Sunday.  Discussion panels, movie screenings and after hours events take place during exhibit hall hours and last until 2AM on Friday and Saturday nights and until 5PM on Sunday.  For additional details, visit fandomfest.com.

Tickets area available online and start at $30 for all-day Friday or Sunday passes and $40 for all-day Saturday passes.  Weekend passes, VIP Experience packages, and more are also available.

Fandom2015Fandomfest – the largest Comic Con in the region – is returning to the downtown Louisville this summer for what the event’s producers call the flagship of their multi-city tour.

For their 10th year serving the Anime, Comic Book, Pop Culture, Movie, TV, Scifi, Horror, Literary, Arts crowd, Fandomfest will fill the halls of the KY International Convention Center at 221 S Fourth St in downtown Louisville from August 7th through 9th.  The event has come a long way since their humble 2005 “Fright Night” beginnings.

As usual, the event kicks off with the Fandomfest Parade, in which community participation is encouraged.  Inside the exhibit hall, the fun continues with celebrity appearances by the likes of Billie Piper, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Peter Mayhew, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Josh McDermitt, and many more.  Great photo ops with sports legends like Ric Flair, Johnny Bench, Reggie Jackson, and “Charlie Hustle” himself, Pete Rose.  Fans of AMC’s Comic Book Men and the Jay and Silent Bob franchise will have the opportunity to see Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes.

In addition to all of the celebrity photo ops and panels, the event is packed with other events including the many vendor spaces where fans can purchase memorabilia, Cosplay World, Gaming Life, and the Fantasmagorical Film Fest.

FandomFest 2014 LouisvilleThe FandomFest Comic and Toy Expo is drawing large crowds to the downtown Kentucky International Convention Center as movie and TV stars, artists, authors, vendors and fans gather to celebrate all things comic, sci-fi, pop, steampunk, horror and more.  The event was expected to draw record numbers and, based on the first two days, it appears to be on track to do just that.

The weekend-long event kicked off with the FandomFest FANtastic Parade which looped through downtown on Thursday.  The expo itself opened Friday evening at 5PM, allowing visitors to roam the vendor hall and participate in events such as celebrity Q&A, games shows, photo ops, masquerade balls and more.

Fans enjoyed extended hours today from 10AM until 7PM, when the after-hours festivities start.  Celebrities at the event include big and small screen stars such as the cast of Star Trek, Walking Dead, Defiance, Being Human, Star Wars, Lost Girl, Clerks and others as well as popular comic artists, authors, anime panels and more.   After spending the day rubbing elbows with fellow fans, gamers and cosplayers and meeting their favorite heroes (or villains), fans participated in after-hours events including the film fest awards ceremony, a drive-in movie event featuring Transformers:  Age of Extinction with Mark Ryan (Lockdown) and Bumblebee in attendance, the rave afterglow dance and a VIP party.

Some of the celebrities on hand Saturday included Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis, Gates McFadden, LeVar Burton, Denise Crosby and other stars of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Grant Bowler, Julie Benz and Tony Curran from Defiance, Karl Urban,  Eliza Dushku, George Wendt, and Ksenia Solo.

Being HumanFor fans who haven’t made it out to FandomFest yet – or visitors who didn’t get enough the first two days – the event continues Sunday from 11AM through 5PM.  Sunday’s activities include vendor hall hours, more celebrity photo ops and Q&A sessions, and special sessions and talks ranging from True Blood and Walking Dead discussions to cosplay makeup and wardrobe lessons to writing and illustration pointers.  Click here for the full FandomFest schedule.
