The Southwest Festival, a one-day event, starts tomorrow at Sun Valley Community Center in Valley Station. Following tradition, the Valley’s Woman’s Club will host a Bean Soup Dinner tonight, starting at 4:30 PM. All proceeds from the dinner will go to support the club.
Starting at 8:00 AM on Saturday, Plumb Lodge #862 will host their annual pancake breakfast. All proceeds from the breakfast go to fun their scholarship fund. This year the event will be headlined by the Louisville Crashers. Other attractions include Toddler Town, Kids’ City, Teen City, chance to meet many local businesses, and the annual car and motorcycle show. Food and drinks will be available for purchase on site.
While the event itself is free, parking will be $5 per vehicle, and includes a chance to win one of the many door prizes. Festival organizers request that attendees leave their pets at home, only service animals will be allowed into the festival area.
Councilwoman Cindi Fowler (D-14) has a great way for families and senior citizens to cool off this summer at the Sun Valley Pool beginning on Tuesday, June 13th.
“I am happy to again sponsor FREE Family Swim Nights on Tuesdays and Senior Citizen Swims on Thursday mornings during the summer,” says Fowler. “It’s a great way for everyone to cool off from the summer heat, spend time with your family and enjoy some exercise at one of the greatest pools we have in Metro Louisville.”
This year, the extended swim hours for the Sun Valley Pool will run from June 13th through July 27th.
Here is this year’s schedule:
FAMILY SWIM NIGHTS
- Tuesdays, June 13th – July 25th; 6:00-8:00pm
SENIOR CITIZEN SWIMS
- Thursdays, July 6th – July 27th; 11:00am – 1:00pm
Please Note: Children must be accompanied by an adult all times.
No drop-offs or unattended children will be permitted.
There will also be a special Summer Bash Pool Party Hosted by Councilwoman Fowler on Tuesday, August 4th as a way to bring summer fun to a close and get ready for a new school year.
“This is a great way to get away from the TV, the IPad or video games to enjoy a summer night, and get caught up on things between parents and their kids,” says Fowler. “You might also find that the Sun Valley Community Center is a great place offering different types of programs all year round.”

They are a service organization of dedicated people who every year host a delicious event that helps various programs in the community.
That is why three members of the Louisville Metro Council are encouraging everyone to come out to the Valley Women’s Club Annual Soup Supper and Bake Sale on Friday, February 3rd.
“The Valley Women’s Club began a great tradition with this supper many years ago,” says Councilwoman Cindi Fowler (D-14). “Their work is far reaching in our community and this supper helps them raise the money they need to continue their charity work.”
“Come out for food and fellowship while supporting the Valley Woman’s Club. This group works hard to promote and fund scholarships and other worthy causes,” says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13).
“The Valley Women’s Club deserves our thanks for helping people throughout our community,” says President David Yates (D-25). “I encourage everyone to support this great organization. Those who come out to this supper know nothing is better than warm soup on a cold winter night.”
The Annual Soup Supper and Bake Sale will get underway from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Sun Valley Community Club on Bethany Lane. The menu will include all you can eat assorted soups, cornbread, crackers, dessert and beverages.
Ticket prices are $6.00 for Adults and $4.00 for children 10 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
