The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is ready to move forward with the next phase of asphalt pavement replacement on US 31W/Dixie Highway and Councilwoman Cindi Fowler (D-14) advises drivers to be aware of lane configuration changes as the project moves north.

“This weekend the repaving crews will be moving the work zone north of Bethany Lane to Valley Station Road, so there will be some adjustments for drivers,” says Fowler.

The crews are wrapping up work on Dixie Highway between Stonegate Manor Drive and Bethany Lane which began in mid- August.

According to KYTC, the new lane shifts will begin after 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2nd and the new traffic pattern will be in place by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. This phase of construction is scheduled for completion by mid-November.

Councilwoman Fowler was instrumental in working with State lawmakers to get this $14.5 million contract for pavement replacement on US 31W underway.

“Everyone should understand this is long overdue and drivers need to be patient,” says Fowler. “So far the community has responded well to the changes caused by the repaving work with no major issues, and my hope is that continues as we move the project forward.”

According to KYTC the Project is divided into four phases:

  • Stonegate Manor Drive to Bethany Lane (mile points 6.6 to 7.7)
  • Bethany Lane to Valley Station Road (mile points 7.7 to 8.6)
  • Valley Station Road to West Pages Lane (mile points 8.6 to 10.5)
  • West Pages Lane to Greenwood Road (mile points 10.5 to 11.7)

Contract crews are removing the existing asphalt, installing the intermediate layer and repaving the roadway in each section before moving to the next one.

MSDA water main break on Terry Road near Greenwood Road is causing traffic problems in southwest Louisville.  MSD crews are on scene and are expected to be there for most of the day as repairs are made.  LMPD is currently blocking the roadway in the area.

The 10-inch main break was reported early Friday morning as part of Terry Road collapsed exposing water pipes and guardrail foundations.  The water service interruption is currently affecting nearly 30 customers including nearby businesses like McDonald’s and the Kroger grocery store.

Residents and employees working in the area are urged to choose a different route until the break is repaired and the road is reopened.  For the latest traffic updates, visit the Louisville Dispatch traffic page.

Starting Monday, February 16th, the ramp from I-65 North to I-64 West will be closed for approximately four months. It is scheduled to reopen in June.

The closure is part of the Ohio River Bridges Project. The current ramp will be completely demolished and rebuilt. The new ramp will link the three overpasses that are currently under construction.

It is estimated that this ramp sees approximately 11,000 vehicles every day. To prevent traffic problems, the suggested detour is for drivers on I-65 N will be to take I-264 to I-64. This detour will be posted on the highway.

Gene Snyder Overturned VehicleSeveral wrecks in and around the metro area combine with Kentucky State Fair traffic to slow down Tuesday evening’s commute for Louisvillians.  At least two of these crashes occurred on eastbound Gene Snyder between I-65 and New Cut Road.

One accident involved a pickup truck which collided with a tractor trailer near New Cut.  Despite occupying both lanes of Gene Snyder, traffic was still moving eastbound as Louisville Dispatch staff was in the area.  Crews working the overturned vehicle near I-65 had traffic blocked and backed up with westbound traffic also slowing to a crawl.

Drive safely and expect delays if you are headed out to see Kenny Rogers at the State Fair or any of this evening’s events around Louisville.
