“Fowler Forum” Set for Tuesday, September 15th
Councilwoman Cindi Fowler would like to encourage residents of District 14 to take part in her next Community Forum on Tuesday, September 15th as a way to learn more about issues and concerns in the district and Metro Government.
“Keeping in contact with the people of Valley Station, PRP and Kosmosdale is important to me and I want to hear from them on how things are going in the district,” says Fowler. “This is also a chance to get an update on what’s going on in the area.”
The next “Fowler Forum Community Meeting” will be held at Valley High School’s Conrad Bachmann Auditorium, 10200 Dixie Highway beginning at 6:30pm.
Representatives of LMPD, IPL, MSD, and Congressman John Yarmuth’s office will be in attendance.
“As we move into fall, there are many programs in Metro Government that people may want to learn more about so I encourage everyone to come out and meet with me and my staff,” says Fowler.

MSD asked to earmark one to two million dollars for plan over successive years
Several members of the Louisville Metro Council are sponsoring a Resolution requesting the Metropolitan Sewer District to set aside additional funding in the coming years for an enhanced home buyout program. The plan calls for MSD to increase funding for such programs in future budgets so that they can make progress on a growing list of properties that have seen reoccurring flooding.
The sponsors of this ordinance are: Councilmembers: Angela Leet (R-7), Kelly Downard (R-16), Dan Johnson (D-21) and Madonna Flood (D-24).
“This Resolution is long overdue and it asks MSD to start thinking about the future and ways of assisting people who have found themselves the victims of increased flooding as we deal with erratic weather patterns,” says Councilman Dan Johnson (D-21).
The Resolution asks MSD, within 60 days, to prepare a plan to incorporate between one to two million dollars for a multiyear buyback program for homeowners in Jefferson County. The plan will include those people who are outside of the flood plain but whose property assessments have been affected by the flooding.
“It is time to prepare for the future instead of just responding to emergencies as they arise. I am hopeful that this show of support from the members of the Metro Council will help to move towards a long term solution to aiding those persons located within the flood plain and in need of relocation.” – Councilman Kelly Downard (R-16)
The Resolution points out that a small percentage of yearly rate increases by MSD along with the recent announcement of the One Water agreement with the Louisville Water Company would allow for creation of a buyback program that would be able to make substantial movement towards addressing the needs of the community.
“This is the long term solution that I have been hopeful to achieve since the beginning of this flood mitigation workgroup. It has always been my desire to find a permanent funding source to a problem that our community should have addressed long before the most recent flooding incident. This resolution encourages a way for families to seek immediate relief when they are impacted by flooding, and I am glad to have been part of the solution.” Councilwoman Angela Leet (R-7).
The Resolution will receive its first reading on Thursday night at the September 10th meeting of the Louisville Metro Council and is expected to be discussed at the Council’s Public Works Committee.

Councilman Steve Magre (D-10) has released the following statement after the Louisville Metro Council gave its approval to a zoning request for Costco to build a new store on Bardstown Road on the site of the old Showcase Cinemas:
“I want to thank everyone on the Metro Council for their vote and support of this project. Costco will be a wonderful addition to this area of Bardstown Road. The Company not only offers quality products to consumers but is also a great employer, especially in its treatment of its employees.
While I know everyone has fond memories of the Showcase Cinemas, for too long this vacant piece of property has been a concern of those who have hoped for a revitalization of the area. I have said many times, Costco will be a game changer and will show renewed interest in retail for this very well established area. To think until now, there has not been any retail opportunities provided for this 19 acre parcel over many years that we will now see changes to allow residents of my district and a major part of the city to access a new 153,000 square foot retail center is great news.
I want to thank everyone who has helped bring this to a reality, I want to thank the members of the Planning Commission, the Council’s Planning and Zoning Committee, the leadership of Committee Chair Madonna Flood (D-24), the economic development people in the Mayor’s office and of course Costco. Their willingness to be part of District 10 and their commitment to grow in Metro Louisville is exemplar: a true model.”
