On Saturday, September 9, the Louisville Orchestra will perform a FREE concert led by Principal Pops Conductor, Bob Bernhardt. The concert will begin at 7PM at the Iroquois Amphitheater and will feature pieces and excerpts from the upcoming Classics, Coffee, and Pops concerts.
The program is as diverse as the The Iroquois Amphitheater is a beautiful venue for this light and casual event.

The Louisville Orchestra will present four concerts at the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center on the campus of Indiana University Southeast (4201 Grant Line Road, New Albany, IN). The four- concert series includes the entire Louisville Orchestra with concerts conducted by Teddy Abrams, Music Director, or Bob Bernhardt, Principal Pops Conductor. Louisville Native David Fenley has underwritten fundamental operational assistance to the LO and the KAF by making it possible for both organizations to secure a professional and functional office. While businesses and corporations often give in-kind donations, Fenley has stepped forward as an individual with an innovative and practical gift.
“The Louisville Orchestra and the Kentucky Author Forum are vital parts of our community and I felt it was incumbent upon me to help bring their goals and dreams to fruition by doing what I could to help,” said David Fenley, prominent entrepreneur and businessman. “What the LO is doing is changing the orchestral environment, and I want to do what I can to support them.”
The LO and KAF have moved administrative offices into the sixth floor of the Doe Anderson Building at 620 West Main Street. The 8,500 square foot office space is a benefit to the administrative operations of both groups because of the proximity to the Kentucky Center for the Arts (KCA). The new space also allows a consolidation of the LO production department by bringing the orchestra’s music library and librarian from a basement location in the KCA.
“We wish to thank David Fenley for his vision and generous sponsorship which allowed the Louisville Orchestra to move and operate on Main Street.” said Andrew Kipe, Executive Director of the Louisville Orchestra. “When David heard that we desired to be on Main Street, he immediately became involved in making it financially possible for us. Our relocation would not have been possible without his help and we are truly grateful for his patronage.”
The LO had been working from ArtSpace at 323 West Broadway since 2008. That office was subsidized and controlled by the Fund for the Arts and enabled collaboration with
other arts groups like Kentucky Shakespeare and Kentucky Opera. As the LO staff has grown and the organization has developed, proximity to the performance venue on Main Street became a greater imperative for the LO.
Mary Moss Greenebaum, founder and producer of the University of Louisville Kentucky Author Forum states: “Finding our new home with the Louisville Orchestra seemed a natural liaison. The music of composers and the words of authors should cohabit amicably. Further, the Orchestra and the Kentucky Author Forum are linked by two other commonalities: overflow audiences in our own community and a presence in the national cultural conversation.”
The LO Box Office is open to patrons Monday through Friday from 9AM – 5PM. The University of Louisville Kentucky Author Forum 2017-2018 season will be announced in the Fall. Open houses will be announced throughout the summer.

The University of Louisville Kentucky Author Forum is a non-profit, nationally-recognized literary event. Mayor Greg Fischer today announced a contest to celebrate the Louisville Orchestra’s historic performance this week with guest conductor Michael Tilson Thomas.
Tilson Thomas, also known as MTT, is the celebrated music director of the San Francisco Symphony. He will be among the most prominent guest conductors for the Louisville Orchestra since a mid-century visit by Shostakovich and Stravinsky, according to Louisville Orchestra music director Teddy Abrams. As part of the contest, Mayor Fischer is asking residents to share on social media about how music and the arts changed their lives.
He has posted this question to Facebook and Instagram —residents will have until 5 p.m. Thursday to share their story. The commenter with the best answer will receive two free tickets to the concert conducted by Tilson Thomas and Abrams on Saturday, April 15.
“Promoting rock concerts in college was one of my first experiences as an entrepreneur, and so I’m a big believer in the profound ways art can change a life — and a city,” Mayor Fischer said.
“I’m urging citizens to tell us how music has helped shape their lives, and for music lovers throughout our city — the longtime classical fans, and the new — to make plans to experience this significant moment for the Louisville Orchestra on Saturday.”
MTT will conduct the orchestra for a celebration of American music that includes pieces by Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copeland, John Adams and George Gershwin, as well as his own pieces.
